Like Microstrategy, Semler Scientific will now put its cash reserves into Bitcoin.
Micro strategy is emulated
After the Japanese metaplanet, a new multinational company has just adopted the Microstrategy strategy, which consists of converting cash into Bitcoins. Semler Scientific’s stock has risen nearly 40% since then.
Semler Scientific now holds 581 bitcoins worth a total of $40 million. A straw compared to Microstrategy’s 214,000 BTC, but small rivers make big rivers.
“Our bitcoin treasury strategy is an expression of our belief that bitcoin is a reliable store of value as well as an attractive investment opportunity”declares the president of a NASDAQ-listed company.
“Bitcoin is now a major asset class worth over $1 trillion. We believe it has unique characteristics as an asset that exists in limited quantities. It can serve as a reasonable hedge against inflation and a safe haven in the context of global instability.
We also think digital architecture makes it better than gold which weighs about 10 times heavier than bitcoin. Given this gap, we believe Bitcoin has the potential to generate exceptional returns as it establishes itself as digital gold. »
This explanation is consistent with Metaplanet’s explanation for choosing to invest in Bitcoin “protect against yen depreciation”. “As it only continues to weaken, Bitcoin offers a stateless store of value that could continue to appreciate against traditional currencies”we can read in his press release.
Eric Semler also justifies his decision by its “institutionalization”, as evidenced by the January approval of 11 ETFs by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“These ETFs saw net inflows of over $13 billion, with investments coming from nearly 1,000 institutions, including systemic banks (Morgan Stanley) and pension funds. It is estimated that more than 10% of all Bitcoins are now held by institutions »he added.
